American singer-songwriter Tolivia has a new EP, “Love Switch,” and it’s a confident leap forward in her sound and storytelling. Her background in classical choir and formal arts at Suitland High School really shines through in the music’s sophistication. You can hear the intention in her layered, fluid arrangements, a sign of both discipline and a willingness to experiment. Songs like “Say It” and “Travel” create such a specific mood, finding a delicate balance between vulnerability and strength.

“Love Switch” feels like a turning point. There’s a noticeable artistic growth here, with more refined production and deeper, more nuanced stories. It’s the kind of project that stays with you long after the music stops, inviting you to listen again and connect on a deeper level.

The EP, which runs about thirteen and a half minutes, is a crisp, heartfelt exploration of love, alignment, and personal growth. The five tracks are crafted with real musical finesse and honesty. One of my favorites, “On Time,” was inspired by a real-life connection that came at the perfect moment. In the song, Tolivia reflects on what it feels like to be seen, valued, and completely in sync with someone. Throughout the EP, she explores both vulnerability and empowerment, creating songs that speak to the heart.

The project opens with the heavy-hitting, bass-rich “Never Too Late (intro-glow).” This track immediately grabs your attention with its bold production and powerhouse vocals. It’s a self-empowerment anthem that sets the tone for the rest of the EP, a powerful statement of belief and self-worth. The production is a solid 10/10; it just pulls you in and doesn’t let go.

“On Time” follows with a graceful, melodic depth. It’s a ballad that truly captures the magic of love showing up right when you need it. Her silky vocals and heartfelt delivery create a hook that is both nostalgic and refreshingly modern. The sheer beauty in her voice will make you want to play this one on repeat.

Then there’s “Balanced & True,” a beautiful fusion of R&B, reggae, and jazz, all held together by a standout guitar melody. Tolivia’s voice moves effortlessly through the arrangement, creating a song that feels both light and layered. It’s the sonic version of harmony in love.

“No Mo” turns the focus inward. The track blends smooth R&B with a hip-hop edge to deliver a powerful message of self-respect. Featuring a great guest verse from SQUINT, the song becomes an anthem for choosing yourself over a toxic situation.

The EP closes with “White Flag (diss),” a cleverly written piece that reclaims the idea of surrender as a form of emotional awakening. With its futuristic production and sharp vocal precision, it’s a satirical yet truthful end to a project all about awareness and growth.

Tolivia’s sound has deep roots but feels completely progressive. Raised in Prince George’s County, Maryland, and originally from Monterey, California, she pulls from a wide range of influences, including Anita Baker, Ella Fitzgerald, D’Angelo, and Bob Marley. A graduate of Suitland High School’s respected Visual and Performing Arts program, her music is a reflection of her training, talent, and soul.

“Love Switch” is a testament to Tolivia’s growing mastery as an artist. It’s authentic, heartfelt, and radiates a soulful maturity that makes her a standout voice in contemporary R&B. With this project, Tolivia offers a vulnerable, vibrant statement of who she is now and where she’s headed. It’s an EP that speaks to real love, real emotions, and timeless music.

“Love Switch” is now available on all streaming platforms.
