Take everything you know about rock bands and put it aside. Done that? Good, now let me tell you the story of Midwest rock duo The Theos Variant, a band that prides itself on its individuality, brilliance, and significance. This is a band that balances the aggressive and the melodious—creating this seamless parity between the edgy melodic tension of rock with meaningful lyrical package and emotive delivery accentuated by their own vehement passion for what it is they do. At the end of it all, you get yourself an outstandingly familiar yet unheard of concoction of rock music with classic reminiscence to preserve its purity whilst looking forward to its future. Welcome aboard!

The Theos Variant’s “Vast” is the kind of memorable music that imprints itself on your head, leaving this trail of unforgettable melodies, lyrics, and cadence that continue haunting you as you carry on with your day. This means that it is indisputably addictive and endlessly listenable.

The intro is reasonably mellow and inviting, setting a squeaky clean foundation before the intense and energy-fueled melodies are called upon, and they answer with thrilling escape, encapsulated by the emphatic drums and the action-packed, arena-ready riffs that provide a potent backdrop for the immensely expressive lead and backing vocals.

It is quite clear from the way the lyrics are and how they have been delivered that “Vast” carries such a deep meaning with lines like “I feel shadows in this soulless pain,” “I’ll never let you say goodbye” and “I’m haunted by the end of me” perhaps pointing towards a man trapped in his own darkness and hell and trying to navigate his way out the best way he knows how…obviously, the song is open to interpretation.

The vocals are crystal clear with lucid discernibility as they exude vivid imagery in their delivery of the evocative lyrics. This makes it so much easier to connect with the song on a deeper surface.

That said, I feel that “Vast” deserves a much larger audience for its impassioned delivery if not for its emotional weight and depth!

Check this song out and let me know how you feel about it.
