In life, we often celebrate some breakthroughs that mean a lot to us or come as turning points that we deserved. And yet, some milestones and achievements feel greater and more gratifying than others. This is most certainly the case with the songwriter, producer, and performer Geoffrey Lussier, who goes by the artistic moniker Skinny G Radio as he released his sophomore solo album ‘Skinny Mini Opus’ that he wrote and produced in a professional Los Angeles music studio. This is so much more than the captivating pop masterpieces that fill this project; this is a result of hard work, resilience, and ultimately belief—a journey that has taken him nine good years to come to fruition, and now that he’s here, he’s taking it all in, reveling in such a feat…and so I ask, why wouldn’t this achievement feel more gratifying than all his others?

14 songs spanning a full hour, ‘Skinny Mini Opus’ is the embodiment of heart and soul as Skinny G Radio allows us into his creative scope, transporting us into the known and the mysterious. For the life of me, I can’t get enough of the tracks: ‘Whatcha Gonna Do?’, ‘Entr’acte,’ ‘Unravel Me,’ ‘Drop It,’ and ‘Pain. Go!’ I must admit they are my personal favorites from this whole collection.

‘Entr’acte’ is a luminous blend of pop hypnosis backed by theatrical flair, featuring full-house instrumentation, a striking voice-over perfectly suited for this song, emphatic drums, cinematic piano, and an overall vibrant beat that transports the listener to another dimension. It is like this immersive odyssey that keeps on getting enthralling as it progresses and a listener is in for it!

With ‘Unravel Me,’ Skinny G Radio really untangles a listener. The song is invitingly vibrant from the get-go, and it feels like something from MJ’s repertoire, though it’s more contemporary and befitting to this world. It is funky and danceable and feels like a celebratory anthem with expressive keys, striking brass, and percussive elements built upon an oasis of inventive flair, keeping a listener grounded.

‘Whatcha Gonna Do?’ is the kind of song that you never forget—emphasis on ‘never!’ The track has been endowed with a plethora of instrumental variety; the brass sections, the standout piano keys, drums and the emotive vocals imprint themselves permanently on a listener as they play the song on repeat for that rare and beautiful chance to revel in its transcendence.

‘Drop It!’ is where Skinny G Radio’s versatility shines the loudest thanks to the track’s hip-hop twists that immediately announce themselves off the bat. The track has an underground feel accentuated by the funky and jazzy feel, with the brass undertones topping it off. This jam is perfect for those family brunch and barbecue settings with the aroma of spices floating in the air, faces beaming with glee, both loud and indistinct conversations and hearty laughs permeating, children playing, and bodies moving to the irresistible beat emanating here…imagine that!

It wouldn’t be Skinny G Radio’s project without some whimsical tales, and that is where ‘Pain. Go!’ comes in as he invites listeners to dance away their pain with the upbeat, dance-peppered beat best enjoyed at maximum volume. Wait a minute, is this Bruno Mars? No, this is Skinny G Radio doing what he does best…an artist on a creative tier of his own!

‘Skinny Mini Opus’ is an album of epic proportions, and I feel that it is best enjoyed in its entirety, and from there you can gauge which tracks you gravitate toward more…though I feel it’s not going to be as easy as you imagined because he’s gone above and beyond and has a way of making every song feel like your favorite, just before you play the next and you are now confused because this one feels a bit better than the last—not to say you can’t have all these tracks as your favorites, right?

Try this album out and be among the many people experiencing something that epitomizes the height of belief and hard work!

Follow Skinny G Radio on his Instagram and revel in his humorous promos leading to the release of the album. And did I mention how eye-catchingly striking and creative that cover art is? No, how could I? Please forgive that grave error on my end!
