Known for their uniquely fluid and melodic jazz with pop influences, Barcelona-based band Soulcare, fronted by lead singer and producer Yann Gaslain and music producer and pianist Rodrigo Pa-Lhen, just made history with “Live at Milano Jazz Club”- a live performance that brought together jazz music aficionados under the famous Milano Jazz Club. A night that many will surely not forget any time soon!
What many experienced as a memorable night with great, non-stop music has been a 2-year journey of relentless work ethic, hard work, and undying passion for music. All this culminated in this live performance that offers 51 minutes and 5 seconds of visceral listening experience.
To give you something like a trailer, I’ve sampled a few classics from this 12-track compilation that features timeless and catchy masterpieces, exquisite arrangements, instrumental prowess, a particularly cozy lead voice, and sweet-sounding backing vocal harmonies.
The opening tune, “Your Song” is irresistible ear candy. The drums, piano, guitar, and bass combine to authenticate a stunning melody before Gaslain’s own distinct voice warmly thrives over the rhythm and melody with his romantic-flavored lyrics.
At some point, I really felt that guitar picking hit the deepest spot in me. It’s also not lost on the listener the whimsical approach the lead singer adopts as the track progresses…I mean, the tune is 6 minutes long, he’s got all the time in the world.
“When I Was Your Man” is a remarkable cover of Bruno Mars’ own original tune. The band gives this tune their own signature jazz spark and quite phenomenal instrumentation with the fruity piano, the dazzling cello, and the rich backing vocal harmonies to round out this impressive performance.
The Spanish inspired “Étoile Filante” is another bona fide standout that starts with the inescapable crash cymbal and mellifluent piano before the lead singer makes an entrance with his homely voice. An all-round soul-revealing performance by the cello, trumpet, bass, drums, and keyboard makes this a straight hit with replay value.
While I could go on and on about how this live performance inspired my own musical ecstasy, I will stop for now to let you savor this inimitable performance from a band at the summit of their expressive expression.
“Live at Milano Jazz Club” is now streaming on all popular digital platforms, with the live video available on Soulcare’s official YouTube channel.
