Mathew Westawski, who goes by the Loosejoxx, is a multi-dynamic artist, producer, and sound engineer whose journey has been one of constant evolution and growth. Music has always been the kind of insatiate passion that he has carried with him ever since he was a child. This insatiable passion saw him learn how to play the guitar at 13. He was also involved in some metal bands before deciding to delve deep into music production in the fall of 2019. Having listened to his new 10-track album “Die Before I Live,” in its entirety, I have to say that he left an impression on me. The music unfolds like chapters of an intriguing book, and when it is all over, you have to somewhat shake it off and come back to your reality again.

“Die Before I Live” has been inundated by the kind of music that lets you escape—the music has a unique atmosphere and aesthetic. In a way, the music gives you the sort of feeling akin to driving down the highway on a hot summer day because the sun is setting up. Mostly, the album evokes comforting feelings with its articulate blend of mellow and dense beats.

“From the Outside” starts like this undercurrent of waves, swelling and building up before it morphs into this strong and trappy beat. The accompanying vocals add depth and polish to the overall jam while underscoring its rap image.

“Slumber’s End” is both mellow and deep, with the bass-filtered beat slinking in and out in exceptional phases. The way this track has been designed embodies sound design achieved right. And what’s more, the music is so settling and serene, with a smoothness about it that makes you feel chill and calm while listening to it.

“Leap of Faith” is another bona fide standout featuring a piano-laden intro backed by deep beats and mellowness, giving the song that feeling of tranquility. It is as if the music understands how you are feeling at that exact moment and elevates that feeling tenfold. This is truly the power of music to transport you to its world and allow you that momentary escape from the chaos of the world, and it is what you sometimes really need.

“Song For You” is the kind of magical music that is specifically tailored for your listening pleasure. The percussive beats, organic melodies, and the track’s consistent blend of rhythm give it an anthemic allure that will continue haunting you even after the final notes melt away. For me, the track’s gist rests on its alluring feel. Anyone lucky enough to experience it will absolutely catch the song’s haunting appeal.

“Move On” features a signature hip-hop beat, albeit with indie pop and rock influences contributing to its far-reaching appeal. The vocals feel just right and are enchanting. Overall, the music makes you feel like you are cruising on this large ship overlooking the oceanic vastness with the worries of the world left a distant behind…at least that’s how the music made me feel.

“In the Dungeon Hermit Flow” is super special. The song gets off with that conversational tone before the deep beats take over with some stunning twists and effects added as the song progresses, making it as captivating as it is engaging. There is something so agreeable about this jam, and it happens to be one of my personal favorites from the whole collection.

“Kewda” is another impressive track. Very flowery with a hip-hop fueled beat that is intricate and addictive. I don’t know what Loosejoxx did to make it this beautiful and addictive, but he did, and that is all that matters.

“Die Before I Live” is a masterclass in music production and highlights the visionary and trailblazing personality that has been driving Loosejoxx so far. This album marks a significant milestone in his budding career, and he couldn’t be prouder that he is sharing his passion with the world.
