As a Black woman navigating the complexities of disability, Lachi has faced obstacles that might have defined or limited someone else; eventually she proved to be a force of nature. Her story is a testament to resilience, continually proving naysayers wrong, defying stereotypes, and rising above prejudice to achieve greatness. She is a legally blind, award-winning musician whose life story is as powerful as the music she creates. Growing up, she more than understood that her path would be different. Yet, instead of allowing her challenges to diminish her spirit, she let them fuel her purpose.

Her journey has always been about reaching higher and surpassing every milestone that others deemed impossible for her. Her music, an art form that knows no boundaries, is a vivid expression of her soul, echoing themes of strength, resilience, and the power of authenticity. As an artist and advocate, Lachi has achieved recognition and accolades, but her true masterpiece is the hope she instills in others and the doors she opens for those who follow in her footsteps.

The news emanating from Lachi’s camp tells the story of a cause bigger than her and her like-minded collaborators. Collaborating with some world-class musicians, Lachi is seeking to amplify the issues of people living with disability as well as LGBTQ rights—two causes that have always been dear to her heart. This will be in the form of a concert series themed “Mad Different” that was filmed at the Amazon Music Studios in NYC. This is the celebration of that biodiversity in all forms—an empowering concert that is expected to shine a bright light on those that are underrepresented and undervalued.

“Out of The Dark” is an eclectic jazz project off of this series concert and really encapsulates what the whole of “Mad Different” is all about. If you love your music as haunting, heartfelt, profoundly touching, and memorable, then you are in for the treat of a lifetime with this art piece.

Lachi sets a smooth, warmly inviting, and mellifluous tone with the gentle piano keys that set a delightful backdrop for her own heartwarming vocals that are soulful and otherworldly. Her delivery feels so alluring, angelic, and tempting, like the captivating sonic embers of sorcerers! The song’s polish is amplified by the exquisitely played cello by Mercedes and the invitingly decent bongos by Lisette, as the salient bass strings from Caylen’s deft fingers elevate the sound’s appeal.

Medusa delivers a memorable performance with their spoken word-fueled cadence, slinking over the stunning backdrop and adding that subtle hip-hop influence to the overall piece.

This track has also been supported by a performance video that is out on YouTube. The setting is intimate, showcasing such a close setting as Lachi and her collaborators complement one another, resulting in the overall success of this polished masterpiece.

Talking about intimacy, there is another beautiful acoustic version to this jam that feels like a cathartic release. Everything here is lucid and crystal clear—Lachi’s soulful voice feels like it is whispering right into your ears, the piano simply serenades its listener, and the splendid cello feels as if it is floating in the air. Medusa’s spoken word is quite the masterclass in poetic expression, topping off the performance.

“Out of The Dark” is a feeling as close as you’d get to transcendental. This is one of those special tunes that leaves a lasting impression from the very first listen.

This is good music. And it is not only good; it is purposeful, with a core driving purpose that is selfless and universal.

Check the song out, add it to your playlist, play it everywhere, and recommend it to everyone you know.
