There’s nothing quite like a Candlebox reunion, is there? A band that stamped indelible imprints on countless records, going on to win over fans and critics alike with their bold, textured sound that took inspiration from a broad selection of styles. Fronted by the lead singer Kevin Martin, Candlebox made a global mark with their sound, becoming inimitable rock champions, and delivered what have become the soundtracks of so many people’s lives.
After making a significant impact in the mainstream scene with their self-titled debut album and sophomore album “Lucy”, the band’s reunion during the 26th-anniversary celebration of “Lucy” gave birth to this new LP, with tracks taken from the debut album and “Lucy” with two bonus tracks, “A Stone’s Throw Away” and “It’s Alright” added to complete this live play.
“Live at the Neptune” is much more than the captivating performances, this is an otherworldly experience by itself that really sucks a listener in as the band rewards the listener with unforgettable performances…it’s almost as if you are there in the crowd watching them perform live… Candlebox’s knack for specific and tailored delivery puts you right beside them!
“Cover Me” is the kind of song that hits you right in the feels and leaves a lasting impression. It has high replay value, and this live performance by the band takes the song to a new and higher level.
The acoustic guitar lays the groundwork as Kevin’s golden voice serenades the crowd beautifully. He’s got a voice that is so powerful and carries with it a boatload of emotions, which he is not shy about expressing. With the backing of the striking drums and bass, you can feel the soul in the band’s performance!
“Blossom” is another bona fide masterpiece, with the powerful performance unleashed here leaving nothing to be desired. Wearing their hearts on their sleeves, Candlebox make it worth the enthusiastic crowd’s while with a top-drawer performance to match!
Kevin brings his heavenly voice to the scene over that impressive blend of guitar, bass, and drums. This soulful and heartfelt performance will leave you yearning for more. As you can hear, the crowd really loved this one from the audible shouts and ecstatic applause as the band performs.
“Blinders” features a delightfully charming acoustic vibe, and the more the tune progresses, the more Candlebox draw you in with their performance, sucking you into the mood and emotions. This tune is also brimming with sublime guitar picking, awe-inspiring drum playing, and a gracious and soul-revealing lead voice that effortlessly invokes a range of emotions.
“A Stone’s Throw Away” is an undeniable ‘feel-good’ tune that exudes a sunny, mellow vibe that makes audiences want to move their bodies in time with the rhythm. I know that’s exactly what the live crowd was doing during this performance. This is also an engaging performance with easily quotable lyrics, making it a sing-along masterpiece.
“You” is a real crowd-pleaser based on the reaction this performance got. The crowd here is in that state of music-inspired euphoria, singing along passionately as they feel the vibe, connect with the energy on stage, and just let loose as the music takes control.
And if there is one thing Candlebox is good at, it’s luring crowds in and transporting them into different realms, because that’s exactly what they did here.
“Live at the Neptune” is one piece of Candlebox’s 30th-anniversary celebration, and I can tell you for free that this music here ignites nostalgia like you could never imagine. And it’s actually fascinating how the performance here feels futuristic and retro all at the same time…guess it’s a Candlebox thing!
